...as a Kubernetes engineering contractor

Join a small, 100% remote company focused on helping others with Kubernetes and DevOps technologies! Read below to learn about what we're looking for and how to apply.

Unfortunately, we're not currently hiring for this role.

We'd still love to hear from you, but we're only hiring for other roles at this time.

Calling all Senior Cloud Engineers

We're looking for experienced Dev/Sec/Ops/SRE folk to join our team, helping our clients navigate and implement the Cloud-Native Vision™ (not really trademarked)

Passionate about Kubernetes, Istio, Argo, Tekton, Terraform, and all things Linux? Do you love applying cloud-native technologies to gracefully solve new problems? Delight in using TDD to build production-grade code? Enjoy creating systems that simplify application developers' lives? Do you relish wrangling AWS, GCP and Azure?

(Azure? Really?)

Then read on!

The Day to Day

As an engineering services company, there's never such a thing as a normal day.

When on an engineering engagement, you could be writing Kubernetes manifests or custom controllers in Go, Terraform configurations or Terraform providers, tweaking clusters, crafting CI/CD pipelines, or building APIs in Python. Each client and each project is different, and that's what makes the job so enjoyable.

Read through our blog posts for a good idea of the type of problems we tackle.

We're also happy to pay our contractors to write about our experiences in our journal, talk at conferences, or research the latest technologies for our workshops.

Let your good light shine.

Clients come to us because of our incredibly deep Linux, DevOps and Kubernetes experience. They look to us to bring a steady judgment born out of our past injuries.

Our people join us because they want a chance to put that experience and judgment to work in challenging projects that span both operations and development. If this sounds like you, then reach out today.

We want to talk if you…

  • Have managed Kubernetes “in anger”
  • Are in love with and terrified by Istio
  • Can debate EKS, Kops, Rancher, GKE, vs AKS
  • Are deeply experienced in the UNIX/Linux world
  • Have Terraformed your twitter account

We're truly DevOps, so you also…

  • Have developed webhooks and operators.
  • Are fluent in Go and Python
  • TDD
  • Mentor through pair programming

This is a 32hr/wk contract position, not a benefited role. While we can't legally provide benefits like insurance and PTO, we do everything we can to help our contractors feel like an integral part of the team.

We haven't mentioned education

…and that's no accident. While we respect the perseverance and dedication it takes to get your higher degree, we also recognize that many smart and hard working people opt to go straight into the industry. We don't judge anyone for either path.

We're 100% remote, but time zones suck

Because of "client communication," we're only hiring people based in North and South America. We  Canadians!

Make an Impact

Our team is small, and we like it that way. You'll have a unique opportunity to help shape SuperOrbital into something truly special. Help us build a company that lives up to our values and acts as an example of what a culture built on respect can achieve.

Why You'll Love Working With Us

We strive to offer a structure that matches our values.

Really & Truly 100% Remote-First.

Not "some remote employees," not "two days a week," but a truly 100% remote-first culture.

It's not always easy, but being fully remote gives our people a healthier work/life balance, allows us to create a more diverse team, and helps us attract the best people we can find.

Get Paid. Quickly.

We pay invoices within seven days. No games.

Some companies pay invoices weeks or even months after you submit them, hinting that you get paid when (and if?) they get paid. We don't play games, and we have plenty of cash in the bank. Our contractors get paid promptly and without fuss, within seven days of invoice submission.

A Four-day workweek and Flexibility

Our contract engineers only work four days per week, and can take a sabbatical to recharge or focus on other projects.

Many of them use this time to bootstrap their own product company, or balance the time with other clients.

A Commitment to Transparency

The entire team meets every two weeks to talk frankly and honestly about all aspects of the business: finances, sales, marketing, execution... Nothing is hidden. Our people love this, as many of them have aspirations of running our own companies in the near future. In fact, many already have!

Our Values

While these values stem from moral roots, we also just believe they're the right way to run a business. Working in an environment of professionalism, respect, and emotional safety allows us to produce our best work, and builds a culture that enriches everyone's lives.

Do What Works.

Our clients look to us to help them understand the myriad and constantly changing landscape of cloud-native tools. It's important to us that they succeed. This means focusing on the actual problems they face and leading them toward the simplest solutions possible. This is what we mean by "Do What Works."

Do The Right Thing.

We continually try to take the path that does right by our people and our clients, no matter how hard that can be. We believe that how you treat others inevitably comes back to you, so we try to keep our karma well groomed.

Be Kind.

We're a business, not a brogrammer startup. We don't accept death marches, political backstabbing, or a "take-it-for-the-team" mentality. Instead, we believe in an environment of professionalism and respect.

Applying Is Simple

No shitty forms, no copy-and-paste, just a simple email.

Let us know who you are, what excites you about working with us, and what you bring to the table. The more information the better! You have been given full and unconditional authorization to brag - enjoy it!

As a bonus to those of us who read to the end, be sure to make use of the word poppycock.
